Mi trabajo se basa en el uso de técnicas moleculares, químicas y biológicas que permitan el estudio de la biología de hongos contaminantes de alimentos, patógenos forestales, comestibles y simbiontes. Incluye estudios de diversidad poblacional y filogenia, caracterización de perfil de extrolitos, agentes antagonistas entre otros. Me capacité en centros de excelencia como el Volcani Center, Centraalbureau voor Shimmelcultures y Forestry and Agricultural Biotechnology Institute entre otros. Utilizando técnicas de secuenciación y análisis filogenéticos estudié la diversidad de contaminantes de alimentos (Aspergillus en maní; mohos en fruta fina), como de patógenos forestales (Armillaria, Hymenochaetaceae, hongos manchadores de lamadera). En cuanto a hongos comestibles realicé estudios multigénicos en Morchella y de microsatélites para estudiar la diversidad poblacional del hongo comestible micorrícico Suillus luteus. En Dinamarca estudié el perfil de producción de extrolitos en Aspergillus. Apliqué técnicas de análisis de volátiles con fibras de microextracción aplicados al simbionte Amylostereum.  

I am a mycologist/fungal biologist, member of the Argentinean council of Research (CONICET). My research focuses on Patagonian fungi of agricultural and forest systems. This involves fungal forest pathogens, postharvest diseases of berries and their biological control and genetic diversity of edible fungi.

Current research projects on forest pathology that I lead, or am involved with, include studies on the diversity, impact and enzymology of Patagonian Armillaria species. Phylogenetic relationships of pathogens and wood rooters belonging to the Hymenochaetaceae. And also the identification and characterization of fungi associated to Nothogagus decline. Here I am particularly interested in wood endophytes and root pathogens. While, in agricultural system we study the indigenous cold adapted yeast as biocontrol agents of postharvest fungal diseases in cherries and raspberries. We also investigate the synergistic effect between yeast and essential oils of native Patagonian plants in different scenarios.

I am fortunate to also be involved in several projects generating sequence data of edible mushrooms in native and exotic forests of Patagonia, from well-known genera such as Morchella, Suillus, Rhizopogon ad Tuber.

In addition to my research I am a Professor at the Patagonian University (UNPSJB) and the coordination of the Forest Protection Area in the Forest research Center CIEFAP. Where we do our research and also provide the service of plant disease diagnosis to forest companies, producers and control government agencies.
